Earthlust invites you to participate in a Climate Justice Fast. We are organizing a rolling fast at Swarthmore College, where at least one person will give up food each day, for 24 hours, leading up the UN climate negotiations in Copenhagen. We will be ‘passing the fast’ in solidarity with a group fasting for the entire period leading up to Copenhagen (
climatejusticefast.com). We aim to send a powerful message to the public and to our political leaders about the urgency of climate change and the need for strong solutions at home and on the international stage by giving up an impactful form of consumption for 24 hours.
Please visit the “Climate Justice Fast: About” page to learn more about how the campaign works and why we are participating. The “Climate Justice Fast:People” page has a schedule of who is fasting each day.
Interested in participating? E-mail swatearthlust@gmail.com and we can add you to the schedule!

The Swarthmore EJ (Environmental Justice) team has collaborated with residents of Ruth L. Bennett Homes in Chester, PA, and Teens4Good to create a community garden:
The Chester Garden Project has stemmed from our conversations with Chester community leaders and residents, who have expressed their concerns about this lack of fresh food. We agreed that a community garden was an ideal, feasible solution to the situation. The project incorporates themes of environmental justice, public health, education and community development. Residents will gain access to quality, home-grown produce and in so doing promote both environmental and human health. We see this project as socially sustainable by serving as both an educational tool about nutrition and environmental sustainability and by cultivation a stronger intergenerational community among participants in the garden. Through the process of maintaining a community garden, residents will be empowering themselves to organize around issues plaguing their community.
