Post Power Shift Thoughts

March 13th, 2009 · No Comments

We’ve been back at Swarthmore for over a week now since Power Shift 2009, and spring break has given me time to think things over.

Capitol Climate Action rally surrounds the power plant

Capitol Climate Action rally surrounds the power plant

12,000 people attended the weekend conference in Washington, DC, and a good number of them personally lobbied their Senators and Representatives. The Capitol Climate Action rally drew 2,500 passionate direct-actors, successfully closing down the coal-fired Capitol power plant. There isn’t a day I don’t think about what I learned, and the movement we students are cultivating, the first step in a global youth movement towards social and environmental consciousness and action.

I think this article by Joss Garman from The Guardian sums up a general post-rally feeling.
